The N-demethylation and N-oxidation of Phenothiazines containing tert-Amine Side Chain

Abstract
|
|
|
Oxidation of phenothiazine compounds with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid(mCPBA) followed by column separation gave the N-oxides and N-demethylated compounds with ca 40％ and 10％ yield, respectively. The N-demethylated compounds were formed by the decomposition of the N-oxides since N-oxides of tertiary amines are thermally labile. Although the yields were low, this procedure was very simple and easy for the preparation of N-demethylated phenothiazines.
